WHAT'S NEW

Alcopops Victory - Thanks to all those who are campaigning to minimise alcohol related violence, crime, abuse and loss of productivity. We particularly thank the Woman's Christian Temperance Union around Australia who asked FairGO to assist with this campaign. Many years ago it was these same women who worked with us on a successful seven day campaign to have alcopops banned from supermarket shelves.

The death and injury toll from alcohol abuse is horrific and may not be unrelated to yesterdays tragic death toll of 6 on Sydney Harbour.

There seems no reason to allow alcohol advertising in Australia. Australians know how and where to get a drink. There seems every reason to cancel the liquor licences of outlets where alcohol causes violence and crime. Many organisations are campaigning on this issue.

Those wanting to join the FairGO campaign against alcohol abuse contact alcabuse@fairgo.org. There is no reason why non-drinking innocent victims including children, babies, mothers, road users, passers-by or partners should suffer to enrich the industry.

DES Victory. Two days after the Federal Government took action on alcopops, the TGA acceded to the requests of women from DES Australia who have been campaigning for truthful advice and correction of false information given by the government to daughters of women who took the pregnancy drug DES.

We thank these women for their energetic and determined resolve to see justice prevail when women's health and lives are at stake. This has been a long battle with a disgraceful attitude by TGA in refusing to properly correct the false impressions it had given.

In both cases FairGO thanks all Members of Federal Parliament who assisted in this battle and particularly the new Federal Labor Government which achieved the result voters sought.

Planning. Those who oppose Government's plans to legalise compulsory resumption of private property for the benefit of property developers, its policy of overcrowding capital cities and neglecting rural and regional Australia, its artificial inflating of property prices which make housing unaffordable to many, young or old, families or singles, contact betterplanning@fairgo.org

GOVERNMENT - FOR THE PEOPLE???

Moir's Sydney Morning Herald cartoon graphically and humorously expressed the views we have circulated widely that government in NSW is by political parties, for developers and other donors like the alcohol and gambling industries. It is most certainly not government of the people, by the people, for the people. Politicians do not have to be dishonest in order to be corrupted with bribes. But corruption of government officials is a crime. Offering a child an ice cream if they do their homework is not.

But we could easily enjoy government by the people (via Members of Parliament) for the people if you participate in the new Australian campaign network AVAGGO. It is free and open to everyone. Email avaggo@internode.on.net

Be a winner, not a whinger. Don't just complain. Ask politicians to fix it. That is surely why you pay them. The personal benefit to you is very specific security, health, wealth and enjoyment for you and your family.

GOVERNMENT - BY THE PEOPLE!!

Email avaggo@internode.on.net to help with any of the following campaigns:-

Help autistic pre-schoolers and their parents towards normal schooling

Minimise the death and destruction flowing from excessive alcohol consumption.

Stop businesses bribing politicians to do what they want and ignore what we voters need.

Provide proper, adequate, safe hospital treatment to all who need it

Fund public schools as adequately as parental fees fund private schools.

Stop politicians deliberately inflating home prices by excluding vast land areas near cities and towns throughout Australia from housing, thus forcing people into very expensive cities - to enrich party faithful, political donors and business lobbyists AND sending people broke when interest rates rise.

Give carers of those with special needs a break and much more support.

Whole of state development with appropriate zone based tax breaks reflecting existing government lack of services compared to capital cities.
