CURRENT CAMPAIGNS TO INFORM POLITICIANS OF WHAT THE VOTERS WANT DONE

Those currently campaigning against the sex slavery industry in Australia would be delighted with the way governments are reacting. With million dollar fines the only way to make the industry unprofitable, governments stand to gain windfall as the fines add to money seized as proceeds of crime.

Those who decided that the extreme option, voting a government out, was the only solution to corrupt planning laws and administration in NSW are overjoyed at the results as the new government moves closer to what communities want.

Following is a list of campaigns that are looking for support on issues that may interest you. Click on the links below to read a brief description of the campaign and use the email address provided to make contact with the campaigner on that issue.

Better Planning - . The New Planning System under consideration by the NSW Government has good aspects like community strategic involvement and bad ones like lack of further residentinvolvement, removal of residential, environmental and heritage protections. The Better Planning Network comprising over 400 resident groups around Sydney has been formed to give feedback to the NSW government on the current planning and future planning policy
We recommend that individuals and community groups affiliate with the party-neutral Better Planning Network, on whose Leadership Team Greg sits.

Trucking Terror - recent tragic truck crashes killing innocent people prove the totally unsuitability of semi-trailers, B-doubles and B-triples on public roads.

The better solution is for goods to be moved by rail wherever possible and trucks to undergo vehicle registration inspections quarterly.
The government should take back and recognise as a potential revenue stream, the testing and licencing of truck drivers. It is no wonder there are so many truck crashes when we realise that truck drivers do not even go for a government licence like the rest of us but are trained and tested by their very own industry. Competent drivers do not suffer steering or brake failures because they ensure that these systems are in perfect working order.
Truck drivers regularly rig their records to break the law. Drivers who break the law should have their trucks confiscated and sold and be sued for breach of licence contract. Directors and officers of trucking companies or their customers who encourage, facilitate or assist drivers in breaking the law, for instance by unreasonable driving schedules, should be gaoled for a minimum of five years and pay compensation to the drivers whose lives they were risking.
Join the campaign by emailing fairgo1986@internode.on.net. Let’s have an industry where truck drivers earn a good income in complete safety, where trucking companies make a good return on their investment and the rest of us can drive our public roads in safety.

Special Education needs your help. Governments don't care much about children with special educational needs. These children have learning difficulties and disabilities. Because they are a small group and their parents are stretched, they are ignored by politicians and bureaucrats. It is a numbers game played with our children's lives and future Australians pay the price. We need all the parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbours of children with serious learning difficulties or disabilities to help us put this issue on the political agenda. Politicians need to know that plenty of voters do care for our kids. Then they will care too!

Alcohol damages babies brains. Pregnant women, often young, may not know the dangers of drinking alcohol during their pregnancy, particularly at certain key times. Politicians prefer to keep it that way because governments make a heap of money out of alcohol sold to pregnant women and their drinking companions. Join our campaign to have warning labels on all bottles, cartons and other containers and in all locations where alcohol is sold. America insists we label Australian wine going into the US market with appropriate warnings. Why are young Australian women considered less important than American ones by Australian politicians and political parties? Follow the money trail! But votes beats money every time for politicians.

Cyber bullying.  Yesterday we highlighted for the NSW Parliament the stupidity of making “intention” a factor in determining innocence or guilt in abuse, bullying, harassment etc, particularly against women and children. Intention is almost impossible to prove, so the most violent  offenders are allowed to abuse their partners or children by claiming that they really did not intend to hurt them ( or kill them) that badly. This expression just gives lawyers a chance to get violent offenders released so they can represent them again some time. We asked MPs to write the laws to lok at the offences through the eyes of the victims. That is to say have regard only to the impact on the victim, not what the criminal may or may not have intended. We have already got the defence of provocation substantially removed. Now you can help get “intention” removed as an excuse too.

Let's Reduce Power Prices. Many would say that increasing electricity prices is a very unfair way of stopping pollution. Welfare, like use of taxes, depends on the political party in power and economic imperatives. Rationing electricity would be fairer, with rights tradeable. Most taxes just go into consolidated revenue. Australia continues to cause massive pollution and climate change by exporting coal to countries like China to be burned. That will not stop any time soon. High power prices have more to do with extortionate executive salaries, high profits from near monopolies  and dividends to government, than any carbon tax. Power companies are gold plating their facilities, so that the government can sell them for higher prices. Current customers are being charged for that gold plating with the approval of IPART. This is a disgraceful covert tax on the part of state governments. Join the campaign if you are interested in reducing electricity prices.
